Millionth Man

On October 23, 2010 Skirmish USA hit a milestone that was 27 years in the making.  One million people have battled it out on the 750 acres that make up Skirmish.  To mark this event Skirmish went old school and held a Big Game.  A game of this type has not been played at Skirmish since their last World Record Game in September 2004.

Normally, during the October Battle for Britain/Berlin it is raining.  When I say raining I don’t mean just a drizzle it’s a complete downpour.  So, the fact that it was a beautiful day made it a great day from the start!  A few of the players jokingly said that they “couldn’t play because it wasn’t raining.”

This game has a variety of players from first timers to veterans.  For the first time players it was a learning experience with equal opportunity to win the vast amount of prizes.  Also, the chance to go home with top of the line paintball gear to come and battle it out in the future.  For our veteran players, it was a welcoming opportunity to go out and have fun without all the demands of a typical scenario game.

A couple weeks after the game I had a chance to sit down with the Game Generals  Madkow, Nyxx and Ninja to hear their thoughts on the game.  This group of command staff had the unique opportunity to play against each other instead of with each other.  All three of them said the same thing  “We went into the game as friends and to have fun!”.

The one millionth player was Jason “Hosh” Curnoles from Georgetown, Delaware.  Hosh opted to take the cash instead of the long list of prizes that were kindly donated by KeeAction.  Even though he forfeited the prizes Paul from Skirmish decided to give him the free lifetime pass anyway.  He will also still have the chance to be a character in the Greg Hastings paintball video game.

In the end, it was a great day and a great game.  Give it another 27 years and I’m sure we will see a 2 millionth man game at Skirmish USA.
