I was out and about on the fields testing some new Empire paint this past Saturday and let me tell you, it was the best day of paintball so far this year!
Our ref led us to Fort Skirmish where we just finished building a few new shacks to fill in some of the dead space. These buildings have small windows and are vertically sided which changes some of the playing tactics on this paintball map.
In most of the old buildings you can look through the cracks to see a panoramic view of the field while being safe from enemy paintballs. With the new construction, the cracks in the siding are vertical while this allows you look through but only gives you a small sliver of the field.
So you might be thinking “if the visibility is worse why on earth would I use them?” The answer is simple – the new shacks also have smaller windows and that makes for noticeably better cover.
My suggestion for playing these new bunkers is to stand towards the back wall and fire from the shadows. Remember paintballs are very accurate in the first 10 feet or so but at the end of their range they can go in a pretty large pattern. By standing back from the window your shots will still make it out but the enemies shots will have a much harder time making it in. In paintball wars, as in any war, you want to take all the advantages you can.
All in all I would say the new bunkers on Fort Skirmish have really added something positive to this old paintball map. I would definitely suggest playing this map on your next visit to our paintball park.
If you have any good strategies on how to play this updated map I’d love to hear them in the comments below!
